Itinerary
A 3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert takes you across the Atlas Mountains, ancient kasbahs, and scenic valleys.
Experience camel trekking, desert sunsets, and Berber culture in the stunning dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Early departure from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, a historic route that has linked regions of Morocco for centuries. Along the way, enjoy ever-changing landscapes: green valleys, Berber villages, and winding mountain roads.
Stop at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient fortified village (ksar) that once played a key role in trans-Saharan trade routes. Explore its earthen architecture and narrow alleys, rich in history and cinematic fame.
After lunch, continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” Visit the Taourirt Kasbah, a former residence of a powerful local ruler, and optionally the Atlas Film Studios, which reflect the region’s connection to international cinema.
Drive onward to the Dades Valley or Boumalne Dades, famous for its dramatic rock formations and ancient Berber paths. Dinner and overnight stay in a riad or local hotel.
After breakfast, head to the stunning Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls create a breathtaking natural corridor once used by traders and nomadic groups.
Continue south through Berber villages and lush oasis landscapes shaped by traditional irrigation systems. Arrive in Erfoud, known for its fossils and its role as a historic trading hub on the edge of the desert.
Proceed to Merzouga, the gateway to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In the afternoon, embark on a camel trek across the dunes, following ancient caravan routes.
Enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Sahara, followed by dinner under the stars with traditional Berber music around the fire. Overnight in a desert camp (nomadic-style tent), an unforgettable cultural experience.
Wake up early to witness the magical sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4.
Begin the journey back to Marrakech via the scenic Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest valleys, lined with palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and historic caravan routes that once connected the Sahara with the north.
Continue through changing landscapes—from desert plains to mountain passes—with stops at viewpoints and traditional villages along the way.
Arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon or evening, concluding a journey rich in history, culture, and unforgettable natural beauty.
